Lobo's Howliday (The Adventures of Lovable Lobo) by C.L. Murphy |Review|

Happy Sunday!

I just finished reading this cute little book, and if you are in the mood for a cute, small read, I would definitely recommend this to you!

Title: Lobo's Howliday
Author: C.L. Murphy
Genre: Kids, Adventure
Release Date: December 1st, 2013
Publisher:  Peanut Butter Prose
My rating: 5 stars
It's almost Christmas and Santa finds himself in quite the predicament due to unintended consequences as a result of trying something new. Lobo, and his raven sidekick, Roxy, travel to the North Pole to help the jolly ole' one and are guided by the Arctic animals. The colors of the season delight along the way and make for a howling good holiday. Can you howl Ho Ho Ho?

Reading Lobo's Howliday for the first time, I couldn't help but giggle. The cover was adorable, and the minute I dove inside the book, it was filled with a cuteness overload!  The illustrations in this book were fantastic and it definitely caught my eye. The characters were fun and cute to read about.

The author included small facts about the animals which I found to be a great idea for young readers. I also enjoyed the sense of humor put into this story. Very giggle worthy! This is the first book I have read from C.L. Murphy and I'm sure it won't be the last! No matter the age, a good story is a good story!

With Christmas just around the corner, I know young readers will enjoy reading about Lobo's Christmas Howliday!

BookBlogWrimo Day 30 - It's a Wrap!

Happy Sunday!

Holy bean burritos! I DID it!

When I first came across this challenge, I thought it would be fun, but I didn't think I could pull it off. I thought I would have to have all the post pre-written in case I couldn't write them all up in time.

Either way, I still signed up to participate. I wrote about three posts before they were due, but after that, the night my posts were supposed to be up and published, I would just take 10-15 minutes to write it. Some days I would be late, but, I still managed to whip up a quick post.

I participated because being a writer/blogger, I wanted a challenge. A few years back, I joined in on NaNoWrimo, but this year, with my blog and school, I couldn't pull of writing an entire novel. So, why not participate in something that involves my book blog?

I also wanted to be able to write things for my blog, and this was the whole purpose for the BookBlogWrimo challenge.

I enjoyed doing this challenge and if the host ever decides to do another one or something similar, I will probably decide to join!

What about you guys? Did you enjoy reading my BookBlogWrimo posts? Will you participate next year? Let me know in the comments below! :)

Also, starting tomorrow, it will be the first day of Sassy's X-Mas Bash! 12 lovely authors will be participating in this bash, 12 lovely giveaways will be posted and I hope to see you there!

BookBlogWrimo Day 29 - The Future of My Blog!

Happy Sunday!

I've got so much to do today and so little time! Yesterday, we got to set up the Christmas lights on the balcony and it looks so pretty!

Our neighbors beside us have a little girl and the minute she saw them go on, she got excited and dragged out her mom to see them too! It's quite nice to see something so small make someone happy, isn't it?

#1. Blog More: When I first started blogging, I was a little slow with my blogs. I didn't quite know what I wanted to write and I was still trying to get the hang of book reviewing.

Over the past few months, I've been doing book blitzes, giveaways, and even book reviews, but I want to expand on my posts; even if the posts aren't bookish, but about my designing, or my upcoming cooking blog.

#2.  More book reviews!: I've recently started to join in on the request for review wagon and I have a few books that need to be read by a certain deadline. I love expressing my opinion on things and book reviews are an amazing thing to do that with. I want to kick off 2015 with tons of reviews and I know I will. ;)

#3. Open up my design shop: I've been designing a lot of things the past couple of weeks, (psst! which are also for authors and bloggers) for my online shop for Sassy & Dangerous, and I'm hoping it will be open by the start of the new year!

#4. Try and be more organized: I'm an alright person when it comes to organizing. I like to keep things cute and clean, but some days..that just doesn't happen. Opps!

What about you guys?  Do you have a blog? What do you hope to see for yourself in the future? Let me know in the comments below!

BookBlogWrimo Day 28 - Book Pet Peeves!

Happy Sunday!

My god, my legs feel like they are about to fall off! They are so sore from Friday's martial arts practice. *whimpers* Why me? Whyyy?!

Here is day 28 of this challenge! :)

For me, I can't leave a book unread. I might get bored of it, read another book and then come back and finish that book. Here are some of the things that make me want to move onto another book!

#1. Annoying characters: I've read a few books that just make me want to pull my hair out and scream because of the characters. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Pretty Little Liars, Darker Days, and so many more. It irks me to read about a whiny, and annoying character and sometimes I just have to put that book down and move onto something else.

#2. Bad grammar: I've come across a few books that have such a great plot, good characters and great writing style. But the grammar? I'll be giving you a big fat no once I finish with the book. It's annoying to read a book and all it has is awful grammar. No thanks..

#3. Drama & the oh forsaken cliches: I'll admit, I like a book with drama here and there, but there is a fine line between little drama and too much drama. The author needs to know when to come out with a big bang, and when not to.

Some cliches tend to get annoying for me. Example A? "Oh I hate him, but I love him." "Kick ass girl and doesn't need anyone in my life..but that one hot guy right there."

What about you guys?  What are your bookish pet peeves? Let me know in the comments below!

Christmas Tree & Kick Ass Poster Design!

Happy Friday!

A few blog posts ago, I said our Christmas tree would get here around December 4th because that is what the website said. It got here today! I was so excited and I literally begged my brothers if we could decorate it, since my parents said we all had to agree on setting it up.

It's a small tree, since we live in an apartment so lots of jokes were cracked because of the size. I could care less on the size. It still looks pretty and my family agrees as well. I'll try and have pictures up soon!

It took me an entire night to finish this design, but I finally finished it! I'm thinking of making something similar for a pre-made cover..I don't know, what do you guys think?

Let me know what you guys think in the comments below! :)

Darker Days by Jus Accardo |Review|

Happy Thursday!

Today has been such a great day. Relaxed for half of it, and then I got to cooking with  the family. Everyone is just relaxing now, even the cat with his stomach filled with turkey!

I've been dying to write this review for awhile and it's finally here! So sit back and enjoy!

Title: Darker Days
Author: Jus Accardo
Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal, Romance
Release Date: August 19th, 2013
Publisher:  Entangled Publishing
My Rating: 3.5 stars
Jessie Darker goes to high school during the day, but at night she helps with the family investigation business. Cheating husbands and stolen inheritances? They’re your girls—but their specialty is a bit darker. Zombie in your garage? Pesky Poltergeist living in your pool? They’ll have the problem solved in a magical minute. For a nominal fee, of course...

When gorgeous new client, Lukas Scott, saunters into the office requesting their help to find a stolen box, it sounds like a simple case—until the truth comes out. The box is full of Sin.

Seven deadly ones, in fact.

They’ve got five days to recapture the Sins before they're recalled by the box, taking seven hijacked human bodies with them. Easy peasy—except for one thing...

There’s a spell that will allow the Sins to remain free, causing chaos forever. When the key ingredient threatens the life of someone she knows, Jessie must make the ultimate choice between love and family—or lose everything.

I had started reading this in the month of August, but, it hadn't grabbed my attention as I had hoped.

At first, it was interesting and some of it made me giggle a few times. But then as I started to get deeper into the book, I had to put it down for some time. The way the author created her characters, it made me cringe.

The plot was evenly-paced and I enjoyed that, but it was the main character, Jessie, that really got on my nerves. Garret wasn't my favorite either. It felt as if the author Googled on how teenagers talked in 21st century!

Darker Days was a quick, easy read, but I don't think it will be on my list for a re-read.

Jessie: For me, I love characters that are witty, and sarcastic. At first, I liked Jessie. I thought she could be that witty and sarcastic character for me. But after a chapter or two, she really started to agitate me.

She slut shamed everyone, she cussed like it was her job and she was judgmental. It felt as if the author was trying to make her seem funny or cool, but instead, it came off as a huge fail.

Sometimes she made me laugh, but with the rest of the book, the way she interacted with other people, especially Lukas, it annoyed me. She would break her mother's rules, and she would cause damage to a lot of things and not even give two cents.

The romance between Jessie and Lukas.. it just wasn't there for me. I've read a lot of YA books with insta-love, but this one, it slightly annoyed me.

Even though I could see the connection there, I just couldn't bring myself to be all mushy when they said they loved each other. How can you be in love with someone in a matter of days?

Let's just say, I hope the second book makes me feel all mushy and gooey!

Lukas: I found Lukas to be a more interesting character than Jessie. He was sweet, gentle and he made me smile whenever he was around.

Although, he did remind me of Edward from Twilight.. but that doesn't matter! He was hella cute and I liked him!

Valefar: Even though Valefar wasn't a major character in this book, I still have to mention him! HOT DAMN, if he's the King of Hell, I want a ticket to go straight down there! Lord, have mercy he was hot! His blue eyes and blonde hair..I could just picture him... *sigh* All the hormones...

Alright, now that that is out of way.. though the main character was slightly annoying, this book was alright. I'm currently reading the second book and hopefully I can have some positive things to say!

Happy Thanksgiving from Sassy & Dangerous! + Grateful Blogger Tag!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow, time really has flown by fast! The turkey is already in the over and later on the stuffing, Moros y Crustianos, biscuits and cheesecake will be put to cook! We just finished watching a few Christmas movies, even though today is Thanksgiving and I suggested we watch Free Birds. But noooo, everyone wanted Christmas movies.

Today is the day we celebrate Thanksgiving Day in the US. Thanksgiving is a day of appreciation for everything in our lives and for me, that would be my family, and you, my readers.

Even though I wasn't nominated, I thought why not just do it for fun? So, here goes!

                                                              Things I'm Grateful For...

#1.  My family! My family has done nothing but support me and for that, I am thankful.

#2. I am grateful for the education I have and the roof over my head. When we moved, it wasn't how we expected it to go. But I am definitely thankful for how it turned out. My education is important to me and my family and to be a successful woman, I need an education.

#3. I am grateful for my blog and my supporters. Without you guys and your continious support, there would be nothing, so thank you!  I am also grateful for the authors and publishers that put their trust in me to promote their book or their clients books. I love blogging and it truly has been amazing!

#4. I am grateful for books and authors! I have been in love with books ever since I could read, and I will never stop being grateful for them!

#5. The chance to take martial arts classes. My parents go through a lot to make sure once I go off to college that I am able to defend myself and for that, I am thankful.

What about you guys? What are you thankful for this year? Let me know in the comments below!

May all your wishes come true, and I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving! Keep on reading!

BookBlogWrimo Day 26 - Cheating on Books!

Happy Wednesday!

Here is yesterday's post!

Photoshop! I cheat on books like it's my job. I love designing as much as I love reading. Lately, I've been doing both a lottt. I love having the extra time to read and also design.

Movies and tv would also be something I do when I cheat on books. I love to just relax and enjoy a good show or movie.

MINION RUSH! Oh my god, I LOVE that game! If you don't know what it is, it is a game that is in the iTunes App Store and it is the Minions from the movie Despicable Me. If you don't have it, you need to get it. But beware, you will become addicted!

What about you guys? How do you cheat on books? Let me know in the comments below!

BookBlogWrimo Day 25 - How I Deal with Book Hangovers!

Happy Wednesday!

Here I am again catching up on again on this challenge! Even though some days I might be a little late, I don't feel right just giving up on it, you know?

Today was some what relaxing. My legs and feet have been busy all day, walking around, exercising, standing up and what not. I just finished covering the turkey in it's seasoning with my family and now it's ready to be cooked tomorrow! I will have pictures up later tomorrow!

Oh, I hate this. I hate when I am reading a good book or series, and then it ends; or I don't have the next book. There was this one time, I read a book that I was just so engrossed in I kept referring to the characters as real people.

You just feel like you're in the book, like you are there with the characters, hell, you might even think you are the characters!

A few things that I do to get over a book hangover would be to go onto Netflix and watch a favorite show of mine!

Another thing would be to write a review and vent on how I felt about it.

I could also lie in bed and wonder what I am doing with my life..

What about you guys? What do you do to get over a  book hangover? Let me know in the comments below!

Comic Design for Sassy & Dangerous!

Let's Talk TV! - Non Bookish Topic Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday!

It's that wonderful day again when I know that Chicago Fire is out and I get to relax for a little bit. So, for Tuesday, I thought what better topic to talk about than tv?

When I was younger, we used to have this huge TV in the living room, and every day I would put on Dragon Tales. I loved watching that show, and I got satisfaction knowing that my brothers hated it! Now, my family and I watch TV on our computers. Here are just some of the shows that I love watching!

One of my absolute favorite tv shows would have to be Chicago Fire. Chicago Fire is a look into the lives of firefighters and paramedics. The spin off, is Chicago PD and the cast regularly go back and forth on the shows, which in my opinion, is awesome.  The spin off, Chicago PD, is also one of my favorites. I love seeing the action packed shows with either cops or firefighters. Also, the eye candy is great. ;)

Another one of my favorite shows would be The Walking Dead. Now, I know some girls can't handle the gory stuff, but for me, the suspense and the thrill of the show..I love it. I love sitting at the edge of my seat wondering who is going to die, who is going to live, and who is going to join the group.

Pretty Little Liars would also be on my top ten favorites. I read the first book in the series earlier and I didn't really like it. But for the show, it's one of my favorites. I always get excited to watch a new episode and I am especially excited to watch the Christmas episode.

What about you guys? What is your favorite TV show? Let me know in the comments below!

Also, don't forget to vote for Sassy & Dangerous for the Best Young Adult Book Blog in the Best of the Blogosphere Awards! Voting ends December 31st so you have enough time to vote and maybe rally up some of yours friends! ;) Just a thought...

BookBlogWrimo Day 24 - Reading Cave Fantasies!

Happy Monday!

Oh my god, my legs, hand and butt are freezing! It hasn't been this cold here in Mexico for a longgg time!

But now that I had warm hot chocolate and I am watching The Originals, I feel a little bit better!

Not too long ago, I created a Pinterest account and I spent an entire hour and a half on it, just looking at book quotes, food, and book hideouts. I loved seeing pictures of the beach or by a fireplace; a perfect place to get a good book and read.

After watching Beauty and the Beast for the first time, I wanted to be Belle and have that huge library. Once I build my own house, I will be having one of those!

What about you guys? What is your perfect reading spot? Let me know in the comments below!

Fearless Joe Dearborne by Lisa Whitney Mitchell |Review|

Happy Sunday!

My day has been relaxing for the most part. My brother and I checked the Christmas lights for the balcony and the tree lights just to make sure they're working. Last year, we bought a real Christmas tree for the first time. It was fun having the smell of a pine tree in the house, but, living in a tropical area..what do you think will happen? It started  to look brown after a little while, even though we watered it every day.

The good thing was, after a certain date (I can't quite remember what day it was), the people we bought it from came to take the tree back and plant it back into the forest. I just hope it's doing better now!

Our new Christmas tree is going to be a fake one. I really don't mind if we have a fake tree. We've had a fake Christmas tree for years now so we are used to it. My family and I really didn't like seeing a brown, dying tree..and to be honest, who would?

We ordered the tree just yesterday and it will be here around December 4th. I am so excited to start decorating it! What about you guys? When do you usually decorate for Christmas?

On Saturday,  I finished up this book and I could not put it down! I didn't expect to be so into it and I'm glad I had the chance to read it.

Continue to read my review. Don't forget to leave your thoughts below! ;)

Title: Fearless Joe Dearborne
Author: Lisa Whitney Mitchell
Genre: Children's, Adventure
Release Date: July 11, 2014
Publisher:  CreateSpace Independent Publishing
My Rating: 5 stars
Some might say he’s courageous, while others would say he’s daring, maybe even a little crazy. But when Joe Dearborne risked his life and ran into a burning building to save a puppy, the local newspaper referred to him as “fearless”—and that’s a pretty big title for a sixth-grader to live up to.

Plus, Joe already has plenty else to worry about. After other daring feats in the past, Joe promised his father he wouldn’t do anything dangerous again, and, alas, he’s just broken that promise.

But whatever trouble he expects to get into with his father, and despite the dangers he’s triumphed over in the past, nothing could prepare Joe for what he’s about to encounter when a cold, bitterness creeps into his home.

A mysterious and peculiar woman named Mrs. Chill has just been hired to care for Joe while his father is away on business. In no time, however, Joe discovers that she’s up to more than cooking and cleaning, and she has plans to destroy his family. Joe’s effort to save them results in perilous, sometimes humorous, encounters, and leads him on a journey through the threatening wilderness where he faces his greatest challenge yet.

Signing up to review this book, I was a little skeptical. I didn't want it to be one of those books that had a brat kid as the main character. But, boy, I was dead wrong!  The author developed such characters and plot that I couldn't put it down..even for sleep! One of my favorite things about the book was how at the beginning of every chapter, it defined a certain word for what would happen in that specific chapter. This book was a quick, easy read and I hope other young readers will enjoy this adventure filled novel.

Joe:  Like everyone else, I thought Joe was fearless. He was a brave kid and I admired that. Even though some of his choices were not the brightest, his heart was in the right place. I enjoyed reading about him and I felt like I was there on the sidelines, watching him..as creepy as that sounds!

After his father left for business and he was left with Mrs. Chill, I kept screaming in my head for him to not make some of the choices he made. I found Joe to be very likable and I truly enjoyed him.

Mrs. Chill: I'm gonna be honest with you..even though this chick was bonkers, she was entertaining to read about. I kept thinking what a crazy lady she was! To me, her eating garlic just added to her bucket of craziness. I know if I was Joe, I'd be dumping some damn holy water on her and saying some crazy Latin words. Overall, she was a weird character that I enjoyed reading about as well.

Let me know what you think of the review and the book itself if you've read it!

Happy reading!
