Sassy's Beauty Tips!

Happy Tuesday!

Finally, that wrenched Monday is over with and Friday is getting closer!

It's almost October! You know what that means? The Walking Dead is finally going to be back! My face was just plain horror struck when I watched the last two episodes of the last season. And my face will continue to be horror struck if they make my Daryl gay! Can I get an Amen, my Walking Dead fans?

I'm pretty sure my fellow Netflix users have seen how Netflix will be taking down quite a few movies and tv shows. Even though they've taken a few of my favorite ones off, I am really excited to see Gilmore Girls being put on! I haven't been able to finish up the entire show, and now that's it's going to be on Netflix, I'll be able to finish it all!

Now, on for Tuesday's Topic.. ;)

Other than books and boys, I know lots of girls also love beauty related things! I know I love to go shopping and find the perfect pair of jeans and also browse through the make up aisle.

For me, I prefer a light make up look. I'm not really interested in the caking of make up on my face, because let's be honest, I'll look like I just got ran over repeatedly. I also go for a simple hair do such as a pony tail, or just in a bun and a clip to hold my bangs back.

Occasionally, I'll straighten my hair and just leave it down. But, living in a tropical area, that really isn't the brightest idea unless you want to look like a frizz poodle.

My favorite make up product would have to be my Baby Lips. I always carry it in my purse where ever I go. I love how it makes my lips soft and adds just a little bit more color to them.

I also enjoy watching beauty guru's on youtube. I've picked up a lot of helpful tips from them, and I thought I would share them with you!

1. Mascara - When applying it, don't lower your chin. That's how the mascara get's on your lid. One of the things I've tried is, I take a small, thin make up brush, dab it into my mascara tube a bit, and then I gently brush it onto my lower lashes. Works like a charm!

2. Shaving - Wait until after you shower to shave. The steam softens hairs for smoother results. I don't know if this is just me or something, but the day after I shave my legs they aren't even smooth anymore! I'm thinking of just bringing a razor in my purse and shaving my legs as I go along the store aisle's!

3. Brows - Okay, we all knows this.. but, it is IMPORTANT to tweeze in the direction the hair grows. I don't do much to my eyebrows other than tweezing the weird out-of-place hairs. I'd look like a freak if I plucked a lot.

4. Eyes - Always use your ring finger to apply moisturizer or concealer to the eye area. It puts the least amount of pressure on the skin. After I found this tip, I started using my ring finger and it feels a lot softer than my index finger.

5. Face - Powder is the only makeup applied with a downward motion—you do this to smooth down facial hairs.

2 tsp of brown sugar

1/2 tsp honey or agave nectar

1 tsp olive oil

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

A small bowl

A small container

1. In the mixing bowl, add your honey or agave nectar and then add your olive oil.

2. Slowly add in your brown sugar.

3. For the delicious smell, add in your vanilla extract and mix everything together till it is well combined.

Spoon the mixture into your little container.

Hope you enjoyed today's topic on beauty!

Book Blitz: Ice Massacre by Tiana Warner! Interview + Giveaway!

Happy Monday!

Ooohh, today is going to be a fun filled post! I'm really excited about this book because I LOVE reading about mermaids or anything with Greek Mythology. Don't forget to enter the author's amazing giveaway and pick up the book for free during the blitz!

Title: Ice Massacre
Author: Tiana Warner
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Mythology
Release Date: September 18th, 2014
Publisher: Rogue Cannon Publishing

A mermaid’s supernatural beauty serves one purpose: to lure a sailor to his death.

The Massacre is supposed to bring peace to Eriana Kwai. Every year, the island sends its warriors to battle these hostile sea demons. Every year, the warriors fail to return. Desperate for survival, the island must decide on a new strategy. Now, the fate of Eriana Kwai lies in the hands of twenty battle-trained girls and their resistance to a mermaid’s allure.

Eighteen-year-old Meela has already lost her brother to the Massacre, and she has lived with a secret that’s haunted her since childhood. For any hope of survival, she must overcome the demons of her past and become a ruthless mermaid killer.

For the first time, Eriana Kwai’s Massacre warriors are female, and Meela must fight for her people’s freedom on the Pacific Ocean’s deadliest battleground.

1. Give us the tweet-sized version of what Ice Massacre is about.

A teenage girl is sent to battle the hostile mermaids that are driving her people into poverty. A story of love, secrets, and ass-kicking.

2. What makes Ice Massacre unique?

First, I haven’t seen a lot out there that portrays mermaids for what they really are: flesh-eating sea demons. But I think what also sets it apart is its almost entirely female cast. This island decides to send female warriors to kill the mermaids that plague them, because women don’t fall victim to a mermaid’s supernatural allure. We end up with an all-female war on a ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Meela, an aboriginal girl who’s never been away from the tiny island she calls home, also has a pretty unique journey of self-discovery. I don’t want to reveal too much. But I think a lot of aspects make this story unconventional.

3. What’s your favourite thing about the book?

I love Meela’s antagonists. Meela’s a tough chick and she has a lot coming at her from all directions. Writing those opposing forces was so much fun.

4. What’s next for you as a writer?

The sequel! This is the first in a trilogy, and I’m hard at work on book two: Ice Crypt.

Book Blitz: Orenda by Ruth Silver! Giveaway + Interview!

Happy Wednesday!

Ah, today is going to be a long day. I've been in school since August 11th and it's already hitting the nine weeks exams. I'm doing pretty good in science and history, but it's the stupid math that just makes me want to grab the text book and fling it off my balcony! But you know what? I'm going to open my can of whoop ass and ace all of my exams. God, help me..

But to brighten my day and hopefully yours as well, please enjoy a fun interview with the author Ruth Silver, and go on and enter her giveaway!

Title: Orenda (Orenda #1)
Author: Ruth Silver
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy
Release Date: April 13, 2014
Publisher:  Patchwork Press
Buy Links: | Amazon | B&N |
Join forces with a parallel universe.

Dark forces, magical creatures, and the world Lil thought she knew collide when a dream transports her to the strange world of Orenda. Stunned and terrified, Lil comes face to face with her doppelganger, Willow, who possesses the ability to travel between the two worlds. Everything Lil knows logically says that Orenda can’t exist, but a small clue may be proof that it was more than an ordinary dream. With the threat of her sister in danger, Lil crosses dimensions but it may cost her even more than she bargained for.

A sword wielding girl, the eternal suit, and a parallel universe come together in this action- packed Young Adult fantasy adventure that will keep readers of all ages turning the pages.

Orenda is the first novel in the Orenda series..

1. What books inspired you to write your genre?

The Hunger Games is the first YA book that I read that really made me want to read more YA novels. Shortly after I read 100 different dystopian, fantasy, and paranormal titles that inspired me to write my own stories in the YA genre.

2. Do you prefer a certain point of view in fiction?

If written well, third person can be as engaging as first person point of view. I love third person because you can focus on multiple scenes throughout a story. New writers just have to be careful of head hopping.

3. How do you get your book into a library?

Contact local librarians and offer them a review copy. Ask them if they’d like you to speak with their group (teens, book club etc).  If you live too far from the library, consider Skype or Google Hangouts. I’ve met a lot of great librarians this way.

4. Can you give some advice or tips on how to write a book review?
Be constructive. Don’t rehash the entire plot (or give away spoilers). This isn’t school where we’re told to write a book review and prove we read the book. Instead give comments on what worked for the story (plot, characters, theme, writing style, etc) and what didn’t.

5. Audiobooks, love them or hate them?
Narration can make or break an audio book. I thought The Fault in Our Stars was well narrated. It captivated me, drew me into the story. There have been other audio books that made me want to fall asleep. Three chapters in and I couldn’t tell you one thing that happened.

Firefighters + Thick and Chewy M&M Bars Recipe!

Happy Tuesday!

I recently stated in my Inspirational Tuesday post that I would be posting non book related topics every Tuesday. So on Tuesday's, I will be posting about tv shows, movies, recipes, and other things that might interest me.

I feel like today is going to be a great day. Why, you might ask? Well, because Chicago Fire is out tonight! And if you don't already know what it is or what it's about, it is a tv show about firefighters. Here's a little synopsis..

For the firefighters, rescue squad and paramedics of Chicago Firehouse 51, no occupation is more stressful or dangerous, yet so rewarding and exhilarating. These courageous men and women are among the elite who forge headfirst into danger when everyone else is running the other way and whose actions make the difference between life and death.

If that doesn't convince then you then I KNOW this will.

Can I get an amen? ;) I am going to finish school, get through my entire workout without stopping, and then straight after dinner, sit my tush down with my bowl of popcorn and watch the newest episode!

Or better yet, I might even make myself a batch of these delicious, chewy M&M bars and maybe you should too!

Yield: 1 9x13 pan Prep Time: 15 min Cook Time: 30 mins Total time: 45 mins

2/18 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 Tbsp butter (or, 1 1/2 sticks), melted and cooled slightly
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
2 tsps vanilla extract
1 12oz bag M6M's, divivded

1. First, preheat your oven to 325 degrees. Adjust the over rack to where it is in the middle position. Do not forget to grease your pan with Pam, or take a napkin and spread a small amount of butter in the middle and sides.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salk, and the baking soda and set that aside.

3. In a large bowl, stir the melted butter and sugars until it is well combined.Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla and mix well.

4. Using a spatula, fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture until it is combined well. Do NOT overmix.

5. Fold in 1 cup of M&M's and turn the batter into the pepared pan, smoothing the top with the spatula. Sprinkled the remaining M&M's on top and press in gently.

6. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, until the top of the bars is light golden brown, slightly firm to touch, and edges start pulling away from the sides of the pan. Cool completely before cutting.

Comment below if you have any questions or just want to tell me if you've made them and how much you liked them or disliked them!

So what’s the game now? This, or the life I used to know?

When Miki Jones is pulled from her life, pulled through time and space into some kind of game—her carefully controlled life spirals into chaos. In the game, she and a team of other teens are sent on missions to eliminate the Drau, terrifying and beautiful alien creatures.

There are no practice runs, no training, and no way out. Miki has only the guidance of secretive but maddeningly attractive team leader Jackson Tate, who says the game isn’t really a game, that what Miki and her new teammates do now determines their survival, and the survival of every other person on this planet. She laughs. He doesn’t. And then the game takes a deadly and terrifying turn.

He catches my wrists and holds them, just tight enough that I can’t hit him anymore, but not so tight it hurts. I freeze, heart slamming against my ribs, because I’m angry and afraid, and because he’s touching me, his hands on my wrists, our faces inches apart.

My pulse races; my cheeks feel hot. Lots of people touch me, and it never feels like this.

“So now you know,” he says. “Happy?” I pull my wrists free. “No,” I say. “Not at all.”

“I know.” He lifts his hands and closes them on my upper arms. I stand there, too numb to jerk away. Slowly, he pulls me closer. I let him. I let him wrap his arms around me. I let myself rest my cheek against his chest. And for a few moments, I just breathe and listen to the steady beat of his heart.

Twenty Things You Might Not Know About Me Tag!

Happy Thursday!

So, I was recently tagged by the two lovely Martikka and  Blessie for the Twenty Things You Might Not Know About Me tag! If you haven't heard of this tag before, it's basically just someone asking you twenty questions about yourself.

Let's start, shall we? :)

1.) How tall are you?

I think I'm still 5'6. I haven't checked my height in a little while.

2.) Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what?

I can whistle the entire tune of Jingle Bells...  does that count?

3.) What's your biggest blog-related pet peeve?

I actually don't have a blog related pet peeve. So far, everything has been good. Except when blogger decides to be a biatch to me and not work. Gaaahh.

4.) What's your biggest non-blog related pet peeve?

Okay, so I know I'm not the only one on this. When people talk to me, while I am listening to music. They see me wear headphones, they know I can't hear them, and yet they CONTINUE  to try and have a conversation with me. Anyone else feel the same on this?

5.) What's your favorite song?

I have so many, I can't just pick one.

Enrique Iglesias - There Goes My Baby
6.) What's your favorite Etsy shop that isn't yours?

I really don't have a favorite, but I do like Zazzle

7.) What's your favorite way to spend your free time when you're alone?

I love to just grab my notebook, my iPod and write. I love to express myself onto a blank sheet of paper and see what flows onto it.

8.) What's your favorite junk food?

Popcorn! Especially caramel. Mmmm...

9.) Do you have pet(s). If so, what kind and what are their names?

I do! I have a cat and his name is Mr. Jingles. I've had him since I was five or six. When we first got him though, we thought he was a girl...Awkward..

10.) What are your favorite fiction and non-fiction books?

My favorite fiction books would have to be the Gallagher series, the Kisses for Lula series, and the Regan Reilly series. I don't really read non-fiction, just not my thing sometimes.

11.) What's your favorite beauty product?

It would have to be my Baby lips. I use them all the time and I don't think I could live with out them.

12.) When were you last embarrassed? What happened?

Oh wow. I don't even know the answer to that question..

13.) If you could drink one beverage for the rest of your life besides water, what would it be?

It's a battle between Dr. Pepper and Jumex peach nectar.

14.) What's your favorite movie?

I love the Jurassic Park movies, Peter Pan, and of course, the Princess Diaries movies.

15.) What were you in high school: prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist, prep?

I'm still in school, for one, haha. Since I'm homeschooled, I don't see myself as any of those. Just the weirdo that sometimes can wear her pj's to school. :)

16.) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

I actually have three places I want to live. Australia, England, and New York.

17.) PC or Mac

I'm all for PC!

18.) Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, bf/gf?

Well, the last thing my boyfriend did was star in a movie. I'm pretty sure you guys have seen the Hercules one, right? ;)

19.) Favorite Celebrity?

Duh, Dwayne Johnson.

20.) What blogger do you secretly want to be bestfriends with?

Rachel Rivera over at Parajunkee! I've also started talking to a few other bloggers, which is pretty cool. :)

                                                        Now for my nominations..

                                                  1. Brittany at Space Between the Spines
                                                  2. Katerina at The Realm of Books
                                                  3. J.B Kantt at Journey of a Young Aspiring Author

Waiting On Wednesday #2!

Happy Wednesday!

What tv shows are you guys looking forward to watching again?

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that I am eagerly anticipating.

The first book that I am really anticipating would be..

Title: My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century

On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother and well-meaning father. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze.

Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore. Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever?

The cover just captivated me! I knew the moment I saw it that this was going to be a good one..I hope!

The second book is actually written by the same author as above..

Title: The Fine Art of Pretending
Author: Rachel Harris
Genre: Contemporary, Young Adult, Romance
Publisher: Spencer Hill Contemporary
Release Date: September 30th, 2014

According to the guys at Fairfield Academy, there are two types of girls: the kind you hook up with, and the kind you're friends with. Seventeen-year-old Alyssa Reed is the second type. And she hates it. With just one year left to change her rank, she devises a plan to become the first type by homecoming, and she sets her sights on the perfect date—Justin Carter, Fairfield Academy’s biggest hottie and most notorious player.

With 57 days until the dance, Aly launches Operation Sex Appeal and sheds her tomboy image. The only thing left is for Justin actually to notice her. Enter best friend Brandon Taylor, the school’s second biggest hottie, and now Aly’s pretend boyfriend. With his help, elevating from “funny friend” to “tempting vixen” is only a matter of time.

But when everything goes according to plan, the inevitable “break up” leaves their friendship in shambles, and Aly and Brandon with feelings they can’t explain. And the fake couple discovers pretending can sometimes cost you the one thing you never expected to want.

I found the cover very cute, something a YA contemporary would have. I'm really looking forward to this one. I haven't read a contemporary romance in awhile and this one seems like a good one.

What books are you eagerly anticipating? Let me know in the comments below! :)

Happy reading!

Inspirational Tuesday #1

Happy Tuesday!

Today is my dad's birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! Leave a comment below wishing my awesome papa a great birthday! :)

Okay, back on topic now. Even though my blog is mostly about books, I'm also going to be expanding it a bit more on non book related topics. So, I'm thinking that I will make a meme every Tuesday about something inspiring.

So, if anyone reading this is having a bad day, or just needs their spirits lifted, then you've come to the right post!

Last Monday, I was in a good spirit. I was laughing, and making jokes to my family and just being happy.

Before my martial arts classes, I was silently reading a book on my Ipod while everyone else got ready. At that time, all of my happiness drained out of me. I don't know what caused me to be so dull, but I was. When we started classes, I really didn't put as much effort as I had hoped for.

My younger sister would voice her opinions every five minutes, sometimes even being negative and that made me irritated even more. I took my frustration out on my brothers and I realized I was wrong. They were there to help me, and I seemed ungrateful to them and I was basically wasting their time.  And because of that, I got grounded.

I'm writing this because I want people to know that, even though we have bad days, we shouldn't feel the need to take it out on others. Yes, it is fine to get frustrated at things. Trust me, I get so frustrated when I'm learning my martial arts, but why should I ruin someone else's day just because I can't get my ish together? And why should you?

I know that NO ONE is perfect. We will make mistakes. We will get mad, or upset and we will take it out on others. But, really..what does that accomplish? Hurting the other person's feelings? Ruining your day and someone else's day? If you are feeling down, or angry, or just irritated, ask yourself something. Why are you in that certain mood? Can you do something about it to make it better? Take at least five minutes to clear your head and then get back to what you were doing, but this time, with a positive attitude.

You are in control of you. No one else. If you start to think negative, saying you can't do anything, well then yes, you won't be able to. But what if, every day you woke up, saying, "Today is going to be a great day," Or, "I'm going to accomplish a lot of things today." Then yes, today will be a great day and you will accomplish a lot of things. Always think positive, and you'll be successful.

Now, everyone has goals and dreams they want to accomplish one day. I want to be a Chef. I want to earn my black belt, and I have many other dreams and goals, and so do you. But first, lets go over some facts..

1. You and I have both the brain and control to do whatever we choose to do.
2. You and I have overcome obstacles in the past because of what we desire.
3. You and I know exactly what you want to do.

So what's the problem..? Getting up and doing the work?! Does that sound ridiculous to you as it does to me?

Your hopes and dreams are all buried beneath you and you are standing there like "What?" I'll tell you what, take a shovel and START DIGGING!

Life isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Life will not be handed to you on a golden platter. Life will kick you when you're down, but you have to make the choice on getting up and working hard for what you want.

If you are associated with negative people, then what are you going to get? Negativity. People trying to bring you down. People trying to take advantage of you. How do you stop that from happening? Simple. Take them out of your life and don't let them back in.

If you want good things to happen in your life, to feel inspired, motivated, then surround yourself with positive, outgoing people. You WILL see a difference in your life.

Every day is a new beginning. Take a deep breath and start again. Today, you have the choice to be positive and accomplish great things. Live your life, don't live in the past, smile at a stranger once in awhile, you never know how bad their day might be, and most importantly, be happy.

Happy reading!

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Happy Monday!

Okay, we all are thinking it. Why the fudge isn't there a day between Saturday and Sunday? Whoever planned out the week, really needs a good smack to the head.

Everyone hates Monday. It's the time of the week where you have to crawl of of bed and change your out of your Pokemon pajama's, and head to school or work. Maybe even both.

But you know what brightens my Monday? Being able to sit down after school and my martial arts classes, and read a great book. Nothing better than to be thrown into a world of zombies, vampires, and ass kicking heroine's! I know all you book/bloggers and book lovers are feeling the same way!

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Journey.

I am currently reading three books. I know, yikes! One is for school as a book report, and the other two are just for me.

The first one that I am reading for myself is..

Eclispe by Stephanie Meyer (Twilight Book 3)

As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob - knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?

I just finished reviewing the first book and you can read that here! I'm almost through with it and I'll be posting a review on it shortly. So stay tuned. ;)

The second book is..

I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter

Cammie Morgan is a student at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, a fairly typical all-girls school-that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class. The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses but it's really a school for spies.

Even though Cammie is fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways, she has no idea what to do when she meets an ordinary boy who thinks she's an ordinary girl. Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, or track him through town with the skill of a real "pavement artist"-but can she maneuver a relationship with someone who can never know the truth about her?

I was so happy that I found this in the book store. Living in Mexico, it really is hard to find some good books that aren't overpriced and that are in English. I swear to god, if my dad left me in a bookstore, he'd cry once he found out how much books I bought. I'll also be reviewing this book soon and I'm really excited for it.

The third book which is for my book report is..

Iced Chiffon (Consignment Shop Mystery #1) by Duffy Brown

There's always something to gossip about in Savannah, Georgia, and Reagan Summerside always seems to be in the middle of it.

She's busy enough running her consignment shop, the Prissy Fox, with her vivacious auntie, KiKi, but now the gossip--and the sales--are about to pick up, after a gruesome discovery...

Reagan's messy divorce has left her with nothing but a run-down Victorian and a bunch of designer clothes. Strapped for cash, Reagan makes use of the two things she has left, turning the first floor of her home into a consignment shop and filling it with the remnants of her rich-wife wardrobe.

Thans to his cunning lawyer, Walker Boone, her ex got everything else, including the Lexus--not to mention a young blonde cupcake. When Reagan finds the blonde dead in the Lexus, she's determined to beat Boone to finding the murderer. As it turns out, the gossip fiends flooding Reagan's shop can give her a lot more than just their unwanted clothes--they have information more precious than a vintage Louis Vuitton...

My mom received this for an ARC awhile back, but she gave it to me not too long ago. I'm also really excited to read this one because I love a good cozy mystery. Also, how cute is that cover?

So, what are you reading? Let me know in the comments below! :)

Happy reading!
